This woman shows an obvious rejection of a money/profit driven society.
This painting shows duality, in the elements, water and fire. In one person. Also it shows a man looking into the mirror of nature [top right] and seeing himself as a woman. A duality we all carry in us, the feminine and masculine. In the top left corner is a woman playing the flute that has the form of a human being. 'I am the hole on the flute that Gods breath flows through.' [Hafiz]
The figures inside the dress are all aspects of the same person. They tell her history. It is the belief that inside one person is the infant, the child, the young adult, etc. They don't disappear as we grow, they are still in us.
The butterflies are coming out of the caterpillars as outlines. They are a sign of what will come, but the richness/color and beauty in this case in portrayed in the caterpillars, usually considered the less beautiful of the transforming pair.
In this painting the figures around the pot from which the tree grows represent the geneology tree. All the generations that came before influence the person we are.
The upward light beams at the top represent the ability to change or redirect/ transform the energies of generations past.
This is the series of portraits that was later used to make the short film "Day"
